The roses have flowered earlier this year due to the unusually hot fortnight in May that we have passed. Now that they are looking their best they are being heavily rained upon which if not sod’s law, it certainly is a reminder of Nature’s law.

This old folksong from England’s West Country is beautifully sung by Maddy Prior (link here) and dates back more than three hundred years.

“It’s a rosebud in June, and the violets in full bloom. And the small birds singing love songs on each spray…We’ll pipe and we’ll sing love, We’ll dance in a ring love, When each lad takes his lass, All on the green grass…”
